On November 27, the event “Logistics training and intermodality, skills and professionalism to support the sector” took place in the Emilia Romagna Region Auditorium. This event was object of the round table promoted by the ER.I.C. (Emilia Romagna Intermodal Cluster) and coordinated by ITL Foundation, in which experts and representatives of the region’s intermodal logistic nodes took part, outlining the criticalities and development prospects of rail transport and declining the needs in terms of skills and competences necessary for being included in this specific market.
This initiative was held at the end of the first year of activity of Cluster ER.I.C. Corporate Academy, network of operators representing the main intermodal hubs of the Emilia-Romagna region which, together with the regional administration, has identified internationalization and training as priority areas of work, aspects of common interest to promote a sustainable and competitive transport system and aimed at increasing intermodality.
This topic is of particular interest for regional planners and focuses on the creation of new professional profiles capable of responding to the needs of an increasingly dynamic and evolving market such as the logistics and transport one, which shows a trend of greatest growth of employees in 2011-2018 (+ 22%) in the region. A sector increasingly oriented to the dissemination of efficient and advanced transport models, where knowledge of the specific area is combined with the implementation of new technologies and interaction with the global market, elements that determine a necessary qualification of the skills system.
The peculiarity of the two training courses started by the Cluster Academy and realized thanks to the regional co-financing, was to create 2 new professional profiles in the technical-operational (Terminal Operator) and managerial fields (Intermodal Terminal Manager). These profiles have a specific knowledge of the railway logistics segment and the development of new intermodal services and with a keen eye on the evolution and integration dynamics of the business of this market. They will be able to integrate into business processes and to support the supervision of the dynamics of interaction with customers / suppliers and with market competitors.
This event was also the occasion for celebrating the first students who positively concluded their training experience. Of the 24 students, about 60% of them have already obtained collaboration proposals in the specific sector of specialization just over 1 month after the end of the classroom experience.
The Vice President and Transport Councilor of the Emilia Romagna Region, Raffaele Donini, took part to the event and handed the qualification certificates.
