The Interporto of Bologna covers over 4 million square meters, including over 820,000 square meters of warehouses and 665,000 square meters occupied by railway and intermodal facilities. In the coming years, the railway area will see further expansion with the creation of a fourth railway terminal of a total of 80,000 m2, which, according to the standards set by the European Community, will include five train tracks 750 metres long equipped with 2 gantry cranes.
The infrastructure represents one of the most important logistics hubs domestically and internationally, located at the intersection of five traffic routes linking North and South Europe, and three corridors of the TEN-T Core Network. A keystone in supporting and facilitating access to railway transport systems throughout Europe, Interporto offers integrated rail and road services, and manages the operation of the current three terminals in collaboration with Terminali Italia.
The management company also operates as a Hub Transport Operator and offers customized intermodal transport solutions tailored to each customer’s unique requirements.
Interporto Bologna provides the following services: train handling, storage, management of dangerous goods (ADR), inspection and maintenance of ITUs (Intermodal Transport Units), cargo handling and transshipment, and railway wagon maintenance.
As a node services facilitator, the company organizes personalized intermodal transport services based on customer requests. Door-to-door services (from the originating warehouse to the destination warehouse) or terminal-to-terminal services (from the departure railway terminal to the destination railway terminal) are offered. The entire logistics platform includes around 130 companies with an estimated workforce of over 5,500 employees.
